kodiak
I tried it every 2-3 years to just come to the conclusion I didn't have enough intelligence to tackle it...so I just keep typing like a monkey. Is that a valid response?.
rdg
so what is spy? a text editor?
edward
spy is a text-based file explorer. Similar in concept to Norton Commander if you ever played with that in the DOS days.
cellchuk
I voted for WTF is Spy option. I've just tried it out. It looks fun
edward
In case anyone like cellchuk tries spy for the first time, it's Shift+Q to quit. Navigation uses vi key bindings. I believe it's documented in Houdini's help system.

I believe it's documented in Houdini's help system. hehe, I was closing the entire shell window to quit . thanks for the tip. But yes there is a section in help about spy that shows the commands and some definitions. cheers
Jason
I recently wanted an hspy - a spy-like/midnight-commander-like interface to browsing through Houdini nodes and parameters.. This would be great for ssh logins and configuring Houdini for a render, and such. There must be some cool python curses-like/borland text-based windows API out there, no? Matt_K
Well that was... like fumbling in the dark! Reminds me of FTPing files from an Indigo2 to an Abacus DDR on IRIX in 1997! Thank *&%# for GUIs, windowing systems, Wacoms and Millions of colours!
