H16 on Quadro 600 - basic pyro render takes minutes

Hi all,

My rig is i5 3570k, 24gb ram, Quadro 600. No problems with Maya renders, but Houdini takes forever to render, even a basic Sphere(1mins) or pyro(2min) or flip.

Edit: it was the Preview mode render that was taking so long. Switching off - sphere renders at 45secs, still exhorbitant.. billowy smoke at 1min..

Looking to change to GeForce GTX 1060 6gb.. is Quadro 600 the culprit or is it the 3570k i5 proc and will the 1060 go well with the i5 3570k, and help me with faster renders? Or any other suggestions?

The GPU is not used for rendering in Mantra. That processor wasn't fast when it was new in 2012 so I'm not sure what you're expecting. If you want faster renders from Mantra then considering getting more processing power.

Can I go for i7 8700k, as it seems to be within my budget?

i7 8700k

32gb ram and 1060gtx 6gb, with a512gb SSD
