Hi Everybody,

Here are some technical breakdowns related to the swarm behaviour.

Most of the stuff was done with the help of the odforce community. Thanks to everybody.

The initial posts are:

"Swarm Like Behavior!, How should I approach the POPs."

"Instancing To Particles, With The Instance Being Animated?, animated objects and instancing"

RGB attribute based bug behaviour:

Thanks to Phil Spicer. He helped me to finalize my concept for controlling the particle's behaviour and psychology based on the colours.

The final particle system:

"grasshopper" helped me to figure out a way of switching from walking to flying. Everything is here on the forum. Thanks!

//

The walk cycle and the fly cycle created by Erik:

Different attributes used to control the speed of each fly in the swarm. Also there was a switch from walking to flying for every individual fly. Copy SOP stamping was used to control all different conditions per fly. SequenceBlend reading the velocity attribute of each particle used to create variations for each fly's speed.

//

The Instancing:

The camera track from 3D Equalizer added to the Houdini scene.

Thanks to the people at NCCA, especially Phil Spicer.

Special thanks to: grasshopper

Thanks to:

Hammy, stevenong, SYmek, Marc, Lukich, aracid, lisux and the all odforce community.

For me all of the breakdown links work but not the link to the completed short. Anyway, the bits I can see look great. Well done to you and the other animators who worked on this. The fly model and walk/fly cycles work really well.

It looks like you solved the problems you had with getting the walk cycle animation to correctly update to the speed of the flies and to correctly time the transition to the flying stage. If you are feeling sufficiently generous it would be great to see your final hip file to see how you solved those problems.

Thanks. It was all with your help. I will try to post the file as soon as possible.
