Is it possible to unwrap a mesh using its UVs?

I'm trying to unwrap/unroll a circular object to form a straight line/mesh and I was wondering if its possible using its UV's. Or is there any other way to straighten out a curved mesh?

Thanks @tamagochy I tried that but it gives a flat geometry. Is there anyway it can retain the geometry details? For example, I need to unroll/unwrap a tyre in its circular shape to a straight mesh retaining all the surface details of the tyre.
