cspears2002
I'm trying to create a trail of smoke behind a bullet. I want the trail to look like the smoke created by the railguns in "Eraser". Should I go with sprites or volumetrics? What are the advantages/disadvantages of either method?
Marc
I generally like to use sprites for anything other than really dense smoke, or if the smoke needs to be interacted with in any way . Having said that though, I've had difficulty getting decent lighting out of sprites in Houdini. I've been meaning to get back to my experiments with them, but it keeps falling by the wayside sadly. GallenWolf
Hey Chris, Eraser? Isn't that a movie in the late 90s starring Arnold? I'm also with marc, try particles first. There is a Contrail FX Tool that may work for you. Its particles, and the shader is setup very nice to give a pretty good volumetric look.
