Raymond Chua
Hi guys, I'm a new Houdini User from Singapore. It just so wonderful to see this forum. I hop onto Houdini from Maya. I downloaded the software 2 days back and I'm amazed at the way this software works! I was like, " WOAH! This kicks maya's ass quite a bit!" My primary interest would be effects stuff, like dynamics and fluids. Of course shaders, lighting and rendering as well. I have not heard much about Houdini's Mantra but I will give it a go nonetheless. I read somewhere it is similar to Renderman. Hopefully I can pick up enough skills and give the 3D world Houdini Challenge a go. It will be a good way to learn. Although Houdini is still new in Singapore, I hope to be the first fews to board this new Houdini craze! Anyone from Singapore as well? =D Regards, Ray

Jason
Welcome, sir! Although Houdini is still new in Singapore, I hope to be the first fews to board this new Houdini craze! It's not a craze. It's a cult, bordering on a movement:) We're aiming for revolution, then perhaps government. Anyone from Singapore as well? =D Steven Ong, where are you? stevenong
Hey Raymond, Welcome to od[force] and Houdini! I'm from Singapore but based in LA. I'll let GallenWolf introduce himself. Where are you working in Singapore? I highly recommend checking out Side Effects (SESI) site for the forum & the Learning Materials link under the Learning menu at the top. Have fun & post questions when you have them. Cheers! steven

Before that I was with Infinite Frameworks, working on the sing to the dawn project. So what about you? How did you get to R + H? Seems like there aren't many Houdini Users yet from Singapore, which is good. Haha. Cool, hope to hear from you. -Ray
stevenong
Hey Ray, Army eh? I remember those days. Were you based in Singapore or Batam when you worked on Sing To The Dawn and what did you work on? I've been working in LA for 5.5 years. DD got me here on a work visa, moved on to Imageworks & finally to R+H. Sadly no, there aren't many Houdini users in Singapore but hopefully the new NYP VFX lab will help the situation. Like you said, it's good for you! Cheers! steven
Raymond Chua
Hey Steven, yea, I'm glad you still remembered the army. Which company were you in during BMT? Have you ROD? hehe. =D When i was working in Sing to the dawn, I was based in Batam as most of the productions are held there. I was involved as a shading artist for that project. Most of time, I am working on XSI shaders, making multi-pass renders and sometimes create new shaders. If you did take a look at the trailer or movie, I did the shading for all the characters and props. I also did lighting test and compositing test but all within XSI. Wow, I am glad DD got you! You must be very talented! So i guess you already got your green card? So what about you? What do you do in R+H? Mainly Houdini stuff? regards, -Ray

Raymond Chua
Alvin- Good to see you too! Your name sounds familiar. I think you are Ken's friend right. Ken Loh, used to be at Infinite Frameworks. Yes, I have some experience in shading and lighting but I mainly play around the dynamics, particles and fluids in H. (Is that a short form for houdini?) tkngs- Good to hear that! yeah, I got a feeling you are from Side effects Asia! Haha! Wow, it is a great thing that you guys are organizing a training at nyp. I suppose people like me as a public user can't attend right? I know this sound aggressive, I just want to grab on any chance I can learn, especially Houdini! yeah, we should have a mini Shug, given so many things has happen in Singapore for Houdini. I think Alvin and Steve can lead or be the advisers as well! Sure, I would be pleased for a meet up! regards, -ray

Hi alpotnis, It is a student training and educational studio and lab to allow students in this school to learn and grow with Houdini in their course of study and for their projects. Steven, Yes, there are teachers and trainers from a few institutions attending the trainers' workshop Cheers, tk
