oversampling and orbit

Hi everyone,

I have a fairly simple network - a source pop, with some wind, and an orbit pop which has it's center based on particle density...

i'm just curious how to make up for a problem that keeps occuring. after i get everything all ready to go... and then i want to turn on OVERSAMPLING to get more bulk to my sim, everything goes crazy...

i'm assuming it has to do with the "particle density" as the center in the orbit pop, however i'm not sure if that's correct and how to fix it...

Thanks,

Jonathan

Not sure what you mean by "crazy" but add a drag pop to your network.

sorry for the terribly slow response, i lost track of my topics! i'll explain better. what my problem is, is that i'll set up a pop net with some basic forces and such... *including drag*, and i'll have an orbit pop, that is basically using the particles density as the center. So when i run the sim all is well! NOW, when i turn on oversampling, my particles going flying off of the screen like theres no tomorrow! the sim "explodes"... i'm assuming it has to do with the orbit pop and using the "particles density as the center"... since the increase in oversampling is most likely increasing the density to some huge number... but still, it doesn't seem intuitive to me on HOW to fix this issue. do i need to be multiplying their mass by some number that's related to the oversampling? sorry, not sure if this is a better explanation or not! Essentially what i'm looking for is that i have a particle sim that i like, i just want to fill in the gaps a bit, so i planned to just turn on oversampling in the end... i expected it to still have the same *behavior* as the original lower sampled simulation instead.

Instead of oversampling, you can also run the sim with a different seed. Change the POP Network SOP's Random Seed parameter to a different value for each sim you run & you can combine them all.

Cheers!

simple solution! don't know why i didn't do that. but i'm still curious *what's happening under the hood* when i raise the oversampling and this "issue" happens.
