zglynn
Hey all, On Houdini's website they have the Rocket Launch demo with this really beautiful smoke hitting the ground and billowing outward. I am trying to create a similar effect using the pyro tools for a student film that I'm working on, but I just can't get the smoke to spread out like it does in the rocket launch demo. I tried messing with a lot of stuff, but my smoke alway looks like this... (see mySmoke image) ...and I want it to look like this... (see goalSmoke image) Any ideas? -Zach
mightcouldb1
Here are some ideas for you: Using a magnet force to direct the smoke. Creating your own velocity fields to direct the smoke. Look into Peter Claes thesis(search). There are some good tips there. Creating two simulations, one for the downward exhaust from the rocket and one for the pyroclastic ground smoke. zglynn
Thanks I'll give that a try and let you know how it works out. -Zach
chumbuk
build tangents in SOP, and import them in DOP use Gas Partikle to Field DOP to create velosity field...
zglynn
chumbuk I think a sorta follow what you are saying, but could you elaborate? -Zach
chumbuk
something like this... tangent_field.hipnc
chumbuk
It is universal method for creating custom, arbitrary vector fields. You can this doing through metabols transfer, but using Gas Partikle to Field DOP and tangents, it faster
chumbuk
also you can to do this, using point cloud in Gas Field Vop DOP, and "op:" in tex. name, but this method not interactive tangent_field_pc.hipnc
zglynn
Igor You are the man! That is exactly what I was wanting to do. Thanks a lot. I'll be sure to post my progress. Thanks again, Zach
