andreu.lucio
Hi all again, I used iso surface sop with two combined turbulent noises to get the irregular base for the terrain plus some displacement depending on the angle of the surface. The worm is a single dinamic wire that move a bone chain and the bones deform the multiple tubes. Hope you like and I apreciate any coment. mightcouldb1
The only thing I can comment on is the camera move. I think animations look better when the camera moves are grounded in reality. Dolly, crane, steadicam, handheld, etc. Plus if you had a bit of camera shake when the monster is revealed that might add a bit to the creepiness because you are involving the viewer a bit more. Other than that, as I already told you on Vimeo, this looks top notch.
andreu.lucio
Thanks a lot for commenting the things you see. I think you are right! The shake when the worm is revealing is nice idea. I made a quite poor camera movement for this. I have to make some camera rigs for the next projects cause I think is a pain to keyframe natural camera movements. In the past, with maya and some dificulties, I used to animate cameras with a joystick in real time which made quite nice movements for the rotation. In chops is very easy with a midi controller, and I think there are small apps that convert a joystick to midi but would be very nice to have a joystick input right in chops. I will try for the next one! Sorry for my orthography , still learning english.
dan_cgi
Hi Putoparri, amazing work. I really like the render quality that you are getting from mantra on your posts, is this latest work pbr or micropoly? Are you in a position to post an example hipnc of your process for the terrain? I would be very interested to learn from your techniques, especially the angle dependant displacement. Nice one Edited April 21, 2010 by dan_cgi
J.Santos
Wow!!!! Amazing terrain! I also liked the worm almost coming from the light and catching you "off-guard"... with some sound this would be really creepy!
andreu.lucio
Hey!Thanks! I can´t post the original scene cause is made in a company but I have made a basic example with the displacement. If you have any question don´t hesitate to ask, I like to share. angleDependentDisplace.hipnc

mightcouldb1
This may seem kind of lame, but I try shoot some video where I walk the path that is in the animation. I shoot the video with my phone, auto-track and its done in 5 minutes. Then I can adjust the keyframes when needed or use a parented null to add extra movement. Just some technique from me. Although I suppose a nice camera rig would be more practical.
andreu.lucio
Thanks for your comments. Well, I get the idea from Vue and tried to replicate in houdini. Hey mightcouldb1, sounds like good idea for some handheld camera movements, I will try.
dan_cgi
Hey Putoparri, I always hate asking for hip files so i really appreciate you uploading your file, which is by the way amazing. There's some little gems in there which i'm sure i'll be using in some projects of my own. Thanks again Edited April 22, 2010 by dan_cgi
andreu.lucio
You are welcome dan_cgi. I learned many techniques from odforce attachments so I like to share my own files to!(which are mix between what I saw and investigate).
