dyei nightmare
hi there, i just became obsesed with this effect, it looks like fluid but with some verlet behavior, i dont think they just used cloth, you can see how it flows... look here: and here: any ideas or directions on how that can be achieved? mirror mirror on the wall, how they achieved that clothy-fluid substance..? haha Edited March 24, 2012 by dyei nightmare 1
nord3d
Hi, dyei nightmare, IMO, there is actually two effects, first is fluid with high surface tension and second is regular cloth. It is also may be confirmed by the fact that frame was changed. Edited March 25, 2012 by nord3d
ryew
Every time I watch that, I immediately think of the T-1000 from Terminator 2. I'm tempted to think it's a similar workflow combined with cloth simulation.
static
Looks like some kind of cloth dynamics on top. Under the cloth could be any number of things, fluids, blend shapes, etc etc.

moondeer
guess on the technique: watching the folds as the creature creeps along the floor... the apex of the folds looks like wires with some fractal noise applied to the movement. the leading edge of the fluid does match the grout between the bricks, so that is a fluid, and the floor then is cgi... if a wire could attract the cloth surface, and then motion applied to the wires then particles scattered across the cloth. finally the particles from the fluid and the particles from the cloth surface would both be use to create the surface mesh. just the ramblings of a rookie. lol.
