edgem
Hello guys, I have done a simulation of an explosion and now I would like to extend it (resume from my explicit cache frame) but I am stuck here. I have saved all my files in bgeo and turned on the explicit cache option before the simulation. According to the manual, I should be able to resume my current simulation but I don't know how to do it. Let's say the simulation stops at frame 60.Now I go to that frame and simulates all it does is simulating very quickly the rest of my timeline with empty files. It seems like it is not the right way to do it. Any ideas ? Thanks everyone Edited September 23, 2013 by edgem
Skybar
I have never done this, but it should continue if you just hit play. Granted the dopnet actually cooks, if you are visualizing the .bgeos somewhere instead of importing from dops it probably won't cook, for example. Also I didn't quite understand, do you only got 1 frame of the .sim files (explicit cache) or the whole range? If you only have 1 I don't really know how to continue, but I believe it is possible. edit: Actually just did a small test. It works fine for me to keep just 1 frame of the .sim files, then go to that frame and continue from there. So it sounds more like it isnt cooking properly. edgem
That is the problem actually. When I hit play, nothing is reading at frame 60. Yes I got one .sim file because of space issue. So I only keep 1 .sim file while simulating (it is in the options).
Annon
I'm not sure that exactly works the way you think it does, or I've never got it to work anyway. What I've done in the past is start the sim from that frame you had last and import all the density, vel and temperature into it once, then continue with the source and let it solver further etc... edgem
hum actually, I took out velocity field. Is that field necessary ? That is really strange because the first time I used explicit cache option worked for me. I just went to that frame and simulate from next frame and it did cook like usually. Now, it does not work. I am still new to Houdini. By import the fields, you mean with a DOP import node ? Thanks again for your help
Skybar
hum actually, I took out velocity field. Is that field necessary ? Well, yes, the vel field is necessary.
lukeiamyourfather
Not sure if you can do it from BGEO files. The normal workflow is with the SIM cache files (DOP File node) which store much more information than the BGEO alone.
edgem
Hum the explicit cache is for that purpose right ?
edgem
Maybe that is the reason why it won't work. I don't have velocity field inside my .sim file. Update : Velocity field is indeed needed for explicit cache file. Thanks everyone for your help. Edited September 24, 2013 by edgem
