Guest tar
There is a faint shadow with a simple test; shine a light at a candle! the faint shadow had a look of the flame, not just the wick.

Did you try it in the real world? I demand a picture! I have no candles

Skybar
Cool stuff! Never really thought about open flames having shadows.
wateryfield
I get some information form kolenya123 https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080304145206AA8nxFO Fire is energy. While it may be burning particles, that doesn't mean it has to give a shadow. There are no oxygen shadows. If there is any shadow, that would be from the smoke, which is made up of ash, which would block the sun (like how there is a decrease in temperature after a volcano erruption because of the dust and debris). Sounds reasonable.
Guest tar
That's a junk theory. Refraction caused by the heat will cast a shadow.
