H15 Indie not exporting 2K picnc / piclc anymore?

Recommended Posts

Trying to export a displacement map via an Ocean Evaluate SOP, I found Houdini 15 Indie won't allow me to export 2K displacement maps. However, I can export 1K and less, but increasing the Resolution Exponent to 11 ( as 2^11 = 2048), makes Houdini calculate, but not export any files.

If I remember correctly, in previous (Indie) versions I could export larger texture maps by setting the file ending to picnc / piclc, so that is exactly what I was trying, but it won't work, anymore using H15.0.313 on Win10.

I'm also getting an error, saying Image resolution is larger than 1920*1080, although everything is setup to export to picnc.

Have there been any changes made or is my system just broken? Has anybody else had the same issue so far?

I believe it is just a limitation of the Indie License. COPS has been locked down a bit more. You may have been right in that it was possible in the past. But now it does no longer seems to work with that license type.

Thanks for the replies, so it seems I'm right and SESI took away the possibility to export HighRes texture maps using Indie, apart from stills.

Does anybody know about an official statement on that matter?

I just want to double check and make sure it is not my fault or if I've just missed a new way of creating high resolution texture maps using Indie or if it is maybe a bug with my specific version.

Besides, I can export a single frame high res texture.

EDIT:  SESI support told me H15 Indie's texture map export nodes are limited in the same way, as mantra renderings, allowing a maximum res of 1920*1080.

However, they might be looking into allowing higher resolutions specifically for the creation of ocean maps.
