ISUther Posted July 19, 2016 Share Posted July 19, 2016 Hello, I have 2 questions. Please, please try to find time to take a look in to this. Questions: First question: I have created effect following this tutorial: Effect is ready in my Houdini FX file and it works. But have question how to change the object. Because at the moment it is object torus (basic 3D object in Houdini) what if i wanted to use instead sphere or may be a 3D text? When i disconnected torus and connected instead for example sphere and i scrolled back animation to start it did not work any more. Second question: I have created another effect based on this tutorial: I have effect ready and copy pasted effect to first effect (effect that i mentioned above). What i wanted to do was that when first effect is done (evolving thingy stops growing) my object blows up the way as it breaks up in this second effect but not before. And it should use texture and material that i have on first effect object. I cant figure out how to tie those effects together. I see first object and second object but cant mix them together. rbowden Posted July 19, 2016 Share Posted July 19, 2016 (edited) I haven't watched the Ben Watts tutorial but, for Q1 all you need to do is make sure you have a point on the surface of whatever object you are putting in the propagation solve. In the attached file, I bypassed your add and replaced it with a blast that is deleting everything but one random number on the surface. If you go through the values of switch one, you can see how it is working on all three types of geo (torus, sphere, and font). For your second question, if I understand correctly, you want to use the propagation effect on the geometry that is breaking up right? If so, I think you are overthinking this. Just get the timing how you want on your propagation effect (ie. figure out what frame you want it to stop on. Do that on your voronoi geo before you pass it to DOPS. In dops, you can just initialize the effect to start at whatever frame your propagation effect stops. Everything after that should be fine. In the attached file, I have fixed just question 1 so, it is up to you to do implement question two based on what I told you. Good luck! I got it working now, so now growing part works. and i can switch between my objects (sphere, box, text etc) Can you explain me the blast node? Because i do not see it do anything at the moment. Also how to maintain that waving part that i had? Regarding question 2 i mentioned above is that i wanted that this growing part evolves to specific object (torus, sphere or text or logo or what ever 3D element) and later blows up. rbowden Posted July 19, 2016 Share Posted July 19, 2016 As I said before, the blast node is just there to delete a random point on the surface of the object. That way the propagation has somewhere to start. You can use whatever points you want as your start position of your growth. You can add any animation you want to for this. In your case, you had the mountain SOP that had the animation on it. In my file, I ignored it and if you want to get it back, simply click the yellow flag on it to un-ignore it. You can replace it with whatever animation you want. I already mentioned what you need to do to get your question 2 working so, I won't elaborate on that again. Every time i understand one more bit it is like heureca to me. Makes me happy like a kind before christmas. I have alot of tutorials to watch and i do them every day + i try myself some things i belive that this is best way to learn especially when u got no chanse to go those fancy schools. I allready love this forum. It is live and people actually try to help. i value that alot. some times i might not get the first time when somone explaining something and then i just re-ask. ISUther Posted July 21, 2016 Author Share Posted July 21, 2016 Do you know what is proper way to add materials to objects here? I think i have done adding materials all the time here wrong way. Example: When i am on Scene level i have clicked always to "Material Palatte" tab and droped materials there and used drag and drop method. But sadly all materials do not work and i do not know why, also when i try to drag and drop material to my fractured object i get an error. For example when i use switch amd use "Sphere1" all works but when i change Sphere radius it is no longer working as play back does not display animation anymore.
