How to select all inside fracture faces?

Recommended Posts

I have an object shattering using a voronoi fracture, i'm importing it to Maya as an alembic cache but i have to manually select all of the inside faces of the cracks to texture them differently. Is there a way i can select all inside faces on a voronoi fracture object in Houdini to make things quicker?

Thanks :)

In Maya or Houdini? In Houdini look at the MMB of the voronoi fracture node and it will list the number or primitives in the group. In the geometry spreadsheet it will show it in the primitive list with 1 included, and 0 excluded, they should be mutually exclusive inside and outside. If you want test one frame export with .obj that should 100% work in Maya showing the faceset groups. Using alembic there are a couple of import methods that might matter. Drop a simple example test geo and the version of Maya you are using if you need more details from that perspective.

does this help ? here's a simple scene, you can see in my Material Inside/Outside, I 'select' whatever group simply by clicking on the dropdown list arrow (materials are nothing to write home about just simple pink for 'flesh' and brown for 'skin').

(Disclaimer: I'm a noob myself so if anyone spots errors, or any tips...please point out, would be much appreciated)

EDIT: added Blast nodes...so if you're at the Blast level..you're at the Faces you want...?
