art3mis
Hi Discovered if I use a RS Sprite Stencil operation in a custom shader to define the outline of a material I can reduce my poly count in half or more. But will collision recognize this sprite alpha outline as though it was a mesh boundary?
Atom
No, it will still appear as a grid to Houdini. You could start with a Trace followed by a UVTexture then a polyextrude. This approach should still make Redshift think it is essentially a grid but Houdini collision will find edges to collide with.
art3mis
Thanks Atom. Will stick with Trace. Find it somewhat finicky to work with though.
Atom
I agree with the finicky, you may want to follow up the Trace with a resample to better control the point topology before you move on to extrude.
art3mis
Thanks. Good tip! So many ways to get to your destination in Houdini.
