art3mis
Sporadically I encounter a IDE freeze, and Houdini won't respond to mouse or keyboard input. Occasionally Houdini 'recovers' after a minute or two. Usually it doesn't though and requires a force quit, restart. Is there any way, perhaps thru the terminal (linux), to tell if Houdini is in a 'permanent' or simply a temporary frozen state? Atom
Press the ESC key multiple times. Sometimes Houdini is just merrily cooking something and appears to be locked up. Keep your eye on the status field at the bottom of the app. It contains useful information about what Houdini is currently calculating. Guest tar
just check the CPU meters to see if they are busy, though on MacOS it can single thread at 100% on a core and be in a stuck loop. Overall you get a feel for when Houdini is working or not.
