Rafal123
Hi people! I little played today with i3D clouds but I get strange artifacts on the clouds. First things are 'stairs' on the clouds edge. I emitt these from poly geos, so I thought it becouse of geo. Then I deleted geo but still get this stuff. Also clouds have many dots, they r very grainy. Does it becouse of shader? Check it out: http://www.rafal.stnet.pl/rafal_cloud_test1.jpg r|m
doc
First things are 'stairs' on the clouds edge. 23948 for this problem you might try truning down/off the compression in your 3d texture ROP. This usually clears up this problem. All the best Luca

Luca 23968 Yeah, it will be slower to render in some scenarios but you will get uniform quality at least.
aracid
if u can post the hip, it may be easier to diagnose brian

Rafal123
thanks dudes, yeahh it's a resolution issue p.s here's one with higher res and artifacts gone: http://www.rafal.stnet.pl/houdini_cloud_new.jpg p.p.s I bet there are more stuff to do for realistic clouds creation, right? Do U guys know some tips what one should add for clouds? SSS, some special kind of lighting or rendering?
symek
how long does it take this render/i3d generation on your machine? Making a nice clouds is not a problem, making them fast... this is a chalange!
Mario Marengo
Making a nice clouds is not a problem, making them fast... this is a chalange! 24513 Hmm.... making nice (as in photoreal) volumetric clouds is not exactly a walk in the park... even if you restrict yourself to forward scattering only. At least in my experience.

Rafal123
If I would like to have an animated clouds the one and only way is to animate and render to .i3d right? If I have one 'static' .i3d file and put it on animated metaballs I won't get animated clouds, right?
Rafal123
new clouds test, check it out dudes: http://www.rafal.stnet.pl/houdini_cloud_new_2.jpg clouds don't have many details but I'm still working on it, what do U think? Visual Cortex Lab
nice ... i was also testing some clouds last week... well.. i should say smokes... cause i was trying to get a face.. smoked and dusted ... lemme exaplain with my engrish a face.. which falls down like it becomes powder .. dust.. or like the mummy to make an example.. and i wanted also to fill all this with a sort of smoke.. and i tried I3d.. I'd like to see some cool examples on this topic actually.. maybe Jason can show up something to "trick" or improve quality and render times?
