Mistyk
Hi, Which of the following video cards would provide the the best performance and accuracy in Houdini 5.x? Wildcat VP Quadro 4 Quadro 5 - based on the upcoming NV28/30 core (speculation) FireGL 8800 FireGL whatever - based on the upcoming R300 core (speculation) Personal experiences and qualified guesses are welcome. Thanks in advance!
Marc
My personal favourites are any of the FireGL range. Especially for multiOS systems. I haven't tried the 8800, but the Firegl 4 is the bees knees . nVidia cards are good, but the drivers often have issues with houdini for the first few rounds. To this day I can't turn smooth lines on with my Geforce2 Ultra. The Wildcat VP is still a mystery for me. Wildcats are generally the top of the heap, but these seem like more consumer cards, and I don't know how different they are. Also,... no linux drivers. Anyway, those are mine. I'd also like to hear what other people think.... l8r Marc
Stremik
Definately not FireGL8800. Read this review.Wildcat III 6110, FireGL 8800, and Quadro 4 XGL Reviewed From the looks of it I'd say Vilcat VP, if you are loocking rof quality. I'd wait when NVidia and ATI release their new products and look for some comparison reviews.
Marc
Yeah, but the wildcat VP is not the same as the 6110 is it? The 6110 is the top of the range, while the VP is more of a consumer card... Unless I'm confused... Marc.
DaJuice
I think I saw some early benchmarks which showed the VP card compared well to a GeForce4 crad, so it can't be too bad.
mike
If you need a card which is cheap ( app. 400 $ ) and very fast, try the geforce 4 from gainward ( gainward ultra / 700 XP ) michael
