charlesnyiha
Hello, I've been trying to make a procedural system that generates closed leaf venation patterns, based on this paper: http://algorithmicbotany.org/papers/venation.sig2005.pdf An example of what I'm trying to achieve. I thought I would try to extend Entagma's space colonization algorithm, since all leaf venation really is is an extension of space colonization. And I've been banging my head against this wall for months, to the point of desperation. I need help. Attached is the HIP file, if anyone wants to look at it. Has anyone of you successfully implemented this before, and if so...please help! What am I doing wrong, any ideas, any tips, etc. Thank you so much! closed leaf venation.hiplc
vinyvince
This is an interesting challenge which i have seen something yet posted here . I dont' have access to houdini now, but here's a good starting point for you. Looking forward this thread https://www.academia.edu/25999349/Modeling_and_visualization_of_leaf_venation_patterns ________________________________________________________________ Vincent Thomas (VFX and Art since 1998) Senior Env artist & Lighting & MattePainter & Creative Concepts http://fr.linkedin.com/in/vincentthomas * Available : Febrary 2020

charlesnyiha
Thanks everyone! 8 minutes ago, Librarian said: You can achieve fine results with riches files . https://richardlord.tumblr.com/ Thanks a lot for the link! This guy's work is amazing! The main issue though is achieving specifically the closed venation patterns. The open ones I've found fairly straightforward, personally. But I haven't found anyone online who's implemented the closed ones before in Houdini. Edited January 21, 2020 by charlesnyiha

Still not in front of Houdini to check, are you using the same setup that is richard using here?
Librarian
@vinyvince No ..Just that leaf, fuse(power of 2 grids ), poly offset and sliding points on the line, than just finding those patterns.

charlesnyiha
@Librarian Sorry for taking ages to reply. I've been working on it based on what you sent here and also your amazing 'nature fun' thread. Here's what I came up with. It's not what I had originally intended but I decided to try something different so that I could move forward.

charlesnyiha
@Librarian Thanks! Although after looking at it the next morning it feels more like a feather than a leaf. I think I'll try what you did and see if I can incorporate L-systems into the setup
