MrCedric
Hello I am leaving Realflow to join you, what I saw for fluids convinced me. What I think I understood, for the houdini fluids, it is processor speed rather than number of cores, and ram, ram and still ram ? Is-it right? If yes I made my dedicated configuration : CPU : 3960X 3.8 GHz (4.5 Turbo) 24 core RAM : Corsair Vengeance LPX Series Low Profile 256 Go (8 x 32 Go) DDR4 2666 MHz CL16 SSD 1 (system & soft) : 1TB M.2 SSD (based on PCI-E 4) CACHING HARD DRIVE : 5TB ssd SATA or NAS ? GPU : AORUS Radeon RX 5700 XT 8G (based on PCI-E 4) MOTHERBOARD : Gigabyte TRX40 AORUS PRO WIFI, AMD TRX40 ATX DDR4. (PCI-E 4) so what do you think about this config? I’m tired to wait again and again during sim, that’s why I want a really strong workstation. Is-it ok or do I take a wrong way?
Atom
I think I would pick an nVidia card instead.
MrCedric
You are probably right, I have selected de Radeon because it is on PCI-E 4, the Nvidia are still on PCI-E 3... Edited August 12, 2020 by MrCedric
DonRomano
Save your money on ssd and buy sata disks for cache. The load time difference is not worth the money, you won't need to change your disk every year and so you can buy more sata disks to get more space to cache ! MrCedric
What’s your point if view between Radeon or Nvidia. I’m lost between them Sometimes I tell me, hey with an « amd » cpu take an « amd » gpu, other times I tell me hey take « nvidia » gpu there are the fastest, other time again I think hey you are crazy, take an « amd » because you can plug it on the pcie-4... So yes I’m lost Edited August 30, 2020 by MrCedric
