ar.
Are there any good tutorials that would help kick-start my education in Houdini? I've been in 3d arts for about 4 years, and don't really need those spoon-feeding things, just something that shows the bare bones of the application. I've seen the tutorials on Sidefx's website, but are there any others? Thanks!
symek
just something that shows the bare bones of the application. Thanks! Houdini/Help/GettingStarted -- no fancy things, just basics and workflow. On the other hand I think it won't help you much as Houdini's way of working is much different in sense of concept of 3d animation at all then any other stuff out there. It's much simpler to switch Maya <=> XSI then jump into H. from any of them. But it's still worthy! Good luck! sy. PS Video tutorials from old 5.5 times and specially those from 3dbuzz are worth to mention also.

whalerider
"The Magic of Houdini" is an excellent book. There are several DVDs out there as well - "Houdini 101" by Garman Herigstad (Gnomon title), "Rigid Body Dynamics" by Craig Zerouni (Gnomon), 2 DVDs from CMIVFX (with more coming).
