Rafal123
http://books.elsevier.com/bookscat/samples...2~chapter_1.pdf ohh shit... I hope there will be an option to stay, in H9 ,with old hardcore UI

Andz
Thanks for the link. Looks like we will have to use a higher rez. to take advantage of the new icons.
michael
one thing to keep note of - H9 is still under developement, so don't get too happy/unhappy/mad/glad about anything you may see in that sample chapter...as both H9 and Craig's book may change before release. digitallysane
Finally some insights on the new UI. Now, I kinda not understand what the complaint is all about. At least from those screenshots in the book it seems many things work as they do/did in H8, only the "skin" is different and it doesn't look bad at all in my opinion. sibarrick
Not sure about it all being in black and white, some colour would be nice

If you can use Houdini 8 you can jump straight in and get going with Houdini 9 as most things work as you expect. Pane linking is different as you can read for yourself in the extract from Craig Zerouni's book that was posted in this thread. I like the new tabbed panes and the shelf is useful. The new node design makes better use of screenspace in networks. john

Vormav
Looks like its been improved a lot. Can't wait. I think I'll mostly be interested to see how well Python is integrated - like if it's just a cheezy non-Pythonic set of bindings, auto-generated as an afterthought, or if it's actually something thats been designed from the ground up to work well with Python. Not that I have anything against ALL auto-generated bindings. If it's a full-blown API, something like SWIG is probably the only reasonable way to do expose everything in a way that's manageable (and I hope we do have something like that for the HDK! ). But when it comes to the application's main scripting language, having something thats actually been developed with Python in mind adds a lot to its usability. Anyway, can't wait to find out. Joe
I can't speak for how you will personally feel about the 9 HOM Python API, but it's not just a cheesy swig binding of what we had already -- it's a specifically designed API with an emphasis on Python (but yes, it's generated with swig).
