ofer
This is still work in progress. I hope to add fur once the tutorials are out. Ill try to rig, also. Most modeling done in modo, the rest in houdini. Ropes and grains in houdini. I used houdini for UVing and rendering. I tried to add some shaders, but it looked very artificial, Im not really good with shaders and lights, but Ill practice.

Symbolic
Great work! What do you think is the advantage of modo modeling wise, compared to Houdini...
cellchuk
nice job  keep posting the updates pls. cheers
ofer
Thanks. I just "discovered" the shading quality property. When set to 2 I finally get much better displacements and all the fine skin details I painted in ZBrush are now visible. I also added displacement and texture for the tires and wheel plates. Ill post an update soon. Modo is very good. It has several advantages over Houdini (unfortunately): 1. It has very good "loop slice" and "edge slide" tools. 2. It has very good viewport rendering engine. 3. It is faster. 4. Selection is quicker and easier. The disadvantage is complete lack of proceduralism. I think if you add these tools to Houdini, it becomes a very good modeling package.
zoki
great work!!! i hope to see this rigged and textured, good luck just one remark though check camel's knees again from the render they seem a little hyperextended and it might give you trouble later on it would be a shame to get stuck with such a beautiful start! could you post side and 3/4 view wireframes of a camel to see topology regards z
ofer
Thanks again. I've got the body rigged. It is my first rig, so it is really not perfect. I still need to tweak it and connect the accessories and ropes to the body rig. Zoki, what do you mean by hyperextended? Too big? Here are two more renders. I started adding textures. The resolution is smaller, because the shading quality is higher, and mantra crashes with higher resolutions. Thats too bad, because with low resolution the higher shading quality is less visible. Ill try to solve it somehow.
zoki
hi check front leg knee angle here and on attachment http://morningnoonandnight.files.wordpress...07/09/camel.jpg z
Rafal123
it looks cool but, IMO, if You could add some dynamics(not DOPs ) to the whole picture, I mean something like running or escaping camel with cool face expression would be fun to watch

ofer
Thanks everyone! Rafal123, of course Ill add some dynamics. Im still working on it. Zoki, I think I see what you mean, my front legs are bent a little bit out in their rest position. It is actually based on this ref picture, where it also looks a little bit bent. But I your picture it looks a bit different, and in other pictures also. Ill fix it. Thanks for this hi-res photo, it is really good. ofer
OK, I just noticed a few things about the anatomy. each leg has two joints, not one. Very strange. The AutoRig doesn't fit to this body structure. Maybe I can go in the animation rig and add these joints.
Matt_K
Nice work - like the fine details. Look forward to some animations! Matt.
ofer
Animations Well, I think this is jumping a bit to far for me. For now, at least. Anyway, I made some improvements to the camel's model. Nothing to do with houdini, but here is the wireframe render. I took it from ZBrush. ofer
OK, I've got it rigged. I like it, its coming along quite nice. I'm still waiting for the fur tutorials. I guess fur and hair is very important for this character. I also want to add some grass, and Im still working on the textures.
JDenker
yea its coming along nicely, but pose the animal in a more dramatic running situation with the neck a bit more down. i can wait to see hair on your camel. what about some dirt on the street. like sand and as you mentioned grass. i would also varify the bricks, which give it a more urban look. what do you plan as background? good work so far. ofer
Ill be happy to hear some comments. Here is a turntable render with nighty lighting. I think I won't do any fur/hair on the camel, since Im a bit tired working on this piece. Ill move on to something new. night_turntable.mov
