jason_slab
yeah really cool tech, hopefully most renderers/apps will be able to do this at some point, it's really nice for us lighting guys:) jason
Jason
Jason, why you trying out VRay? That's interesting because there are so much other good renders out there, too. So why Vray in particular. Ever thought of 3delight or maxwell? I'm not "trying out VRay" per se, my agenda is really to find out how to get Mantra to be as easy and rewarding an experience as VRay is. 3Delight has a typical Renderman workflow, I'm sure and Maxwell is not a production renderer. I gave some thought to starting a SOHO pipeline to VRay but it doesn't seem like they ship a standalone version of their renderer (do they?). michael
I think they do...there are references to a standalone version if you do a google search...but nothing that I can find on their page...
Richard
Hey Jason, dont know if you have seen this yet http://www.xn--d1abb4ane.com/blog/archives/57#more-57 its from a russian arch viz company they seem to have implemented vray with houdini there is two .py scripts linked off that page that might be useful if your going to try vray houdini pipeline I used to use vray quite and its a got a great little engine in it revs nicely when you put the foot down. The materials are good out of the box I think one of the main reasons people like using it is that there is coherent documentation Take a look through there docs on chaos group all you need to know right there. Mantra kicks arse but its like a rubix cube sometimes. Its been a while but Im 99 percent they have brought out a standalone version for Maya I think it came out in Jan Feb of this year. and I think this is how the russian lads prob stuck there version together Might also want to take a look at this off the same site http://www.xn--d1abb4ane.com/blog/archives/99#more-99 Vray for Houdini would be cool so Im wishing you the best of luck cant help with the translation though Richard

craigthailand
in my opinion vray is so easy to get nice results (and now mr too) because of two things its energy conserving shaders and its tonempper .... and mr now has these features now thanks to zap andersons mia_material and mia_exposure lens shader
kubabuk
this is an interesting file:http://www.xn--d1abb4ane.com/blog/wp-conte...or-08-06-19.zip yes but you need to compile the runtime module yourself, otherwise it doesn't work (at least for me) http://www.xn--d1abb4ane.com/blog/wp-conte.../04/newpython.c here is the link to the blender implementation if anybody is interested: http://blender.lugr.ru/ kuba
