Wolfwood
Yea I saw that too. What would be really interesting to see with Houdini is a "Character Animator's Workshop" Keep up the great work SESI. jim.

michael
It wouldn't suprise me if we did see it...I have a feeling the is some kind of 'master plan' at work for Houdini and character animation...

Jason
I like the Beta journal these days.. the severity of the bugs they're fixing (besides COPs) shows that 6.0 must be pretty stable these days. I wonder when the official release of it is?
michael
wasn't it supposed to be right around now? could be they are waiting to finish up the rest of the new documentation....there are no changes from 6.0.265 > 6.0272 in the docs or user_guide
Wolfwood
COPs seems to be a hot spot for bugs...did the orginal COPs have similar problems? Or is it a case of brand new system, brand new bugs? jim.
Wolfwood
Just a little FYI. Thanks for the heads up Peter. From Peter over at the SideFX forums.... If you try to install [Windows] 6.0.272 and you have the Install Documentation option selected, the install will fail. To workaround this turn off the Install Documentation option (you need to select Custom install). We'll post a corrected version as soon as possible. Sorry for the inconvenience! jim. Stremik
Is this about Windows or Linux installer? I've just installed 272 on Windows and evrything went smoothly.
Wolfwood
Peter said Windows. But if the install worked.....then you got me... jim.
Stremik
Maybe this issue occurs on mashines with somewhat more advanced graphic accelerators, and the computer I was installing Houdini to, has the most generic, 6 years old card with 4MB of RAM, though I can hardly imagine this would be the cause. robert.magee
The TD workshop directory is a placeholder for a project we will be developing over the summer. I never expected people to spend time reading the directory titles:-) The new user guide is a large undertaking and the html approach is allowing us to build up this document over time. The goal is to ship a User Guide with Houdini 6 that is primarily filled with what's new lessons then I will begin tackling lessons covering the rest of Houdini. When new lessons are available for the User Guide they will be included with new Houdini builds. For those companies that are more conservative about loading these builds, User Guide updates will be available on the community pages. These will be a zipped version of the user_guide directory that can be simply copied over the old one in your Houdini directory. A new demo file section will also be coming which will bring back the old demo files updated to Houdini 6 with html introduction pages. I noticed a vote for more character lessons. Any particular topics you want to learn about? If anyone wants to mail me directly with a list of which topics are most important to you then this will help me establish a priority list after V6 is released. robert.magee
>>DAMN!!...lol If you are referring to the missing TD_workshop directory don't worry. It will return down the road. Meanwhile check out the new Digital Asset lesson. The one that got posted is an introduction to the Digital Asset concept (which uses OTLs). The lesson will be followed by another lesson teaching you how to build the UI for the same Operator Type and a simple character example. I think I left some broken links in for these pages. They will be filled soon. Another thing worth looking at is the Help Broswer lesson in the User Guide. A new section found at the bottom describes how to customize the new Go menu in the browser so that you can add your own links. Also there is now a User Guide Contents page that can be accessed from the new Go menu and from the Help Contents page. All the lessons listed are those that were developed for the What's new section. Other lessons will follow for the rest of Houdini over the coming months. Robert Magee Side Effects Software Inc. Wolfwood
>>DAMN!!...lolIf you are referring to the missing TD_workshop directory don't worry. Actually I think its because he didn't break the news about the new build. Thanks for the info. Robert, I'm really like this new documentation system. jim. michael
hehehe...yeah that was why anyway..I have a bone to pick with you Robert....all the new stuff in the user guide is great...but the broken links - teasing us with cool new stuff - is just not fair I really like the direction the user guide seems to be going ...I can't wait for the pdf's to get updated edit - the Working with Digital Assets section of the user guide has an Install OTL button but it does nothing..the OTL (OPtools.otl) is there, and can be installed manually, but it doesn't install through the HTML page... robert.magee
Thanks for the feedback on the Digital Asset lesson. The javascript file was not referenced properly therefore the button wasn't working. It is now fixed. The next release with also have a lesson on how to build this asset along with its UI.
