michael
Hi Here is a very good article on the VFX used in Benjamin Button. http://www.fxguide.com/article520.html if there are any details that need clarifying I might be able to help, I didn't work on BB but I'm working on a Splice which is also using the same technology. thekenny
I am gathering from the article that the major difference with this particular show is that they used both Mova and Image Metrics. The mova data would have allowed them to have their own FACs based database for just Pitt that the image metrics data could then use as the source to determine the amount of animation to apply to the specific "age" rig they had. Interesting application of both technologies. At least that is my guess. My understanding is the typical application of Image Metrics uses a generic database of FACs information to apply to the specific rig, fine tuning the amount applied is subjective based on the rig and differences in the new target. They have that fine tuning process as part of their own process, so you can fine an good match for what you need for the given project. Still have to see it myself, but from everything I hear it works very well in this movie. -k HiHere is a very good article on the VFX used in Benjamin Button. http://www.fxguide.com/article520.html if there are any details that need clarifying I might be able to help, I didn't work on BB but I'm working on a Splice which is also using the same technology. michael
yeah stu and I were talking about it this morning...it's IMO the best use of both technologies... mova to get you the shapes/targets IM to capture the performance and determine how (animation) you get from one shape to the next etc...and it contains a rig that you can edit at any time. the old dots-on-face style is dead as far as I'm concerned. thekenny
Interesting that DNeg has launched, what would appear to be a similar usage of image metrics http://www.vfxworld.com/index.php?atype=news&id=26644 -k
