vi_rus
Hello everyone, I'm glad to present my last work which I've done for 3 months. Hope you will like it https://vimeo.com/68236946
ikarus
Stunning work! Aside from the water looking pretty much perfect, I dig the procedural jungle as well
Fabiano Berlim
Freaking amazing! How long you took to do the waterfall?
vi_rus
Thanks guys! Freaking amazing! How long you took to do the waterfall? Waterfall researchers took about 1,5 - 2 months. I spent lots of time for optimizing simulation speed and caching approaches.
JonathanGranskg
As a long time lurker here, I really felt this was a worthy thread to spend my first post on. That's just stunning work! Thanks for sharing. I'm curious, how did you create the plants in Houdini?

vi_rus
Thanks to everyone! I'm really glad to read such positive comments. I'm curious, how did you create the plants in Houdini? It's pretty easy. First of all you need to scatter points on the rock's geometry. After that create instance object and set a link for trees models, make lots of random and uniqueness. Something like that.
Oddball
This is amazing, the jungle and of course the waterfall.. you really pushed things. If I may add one small bit of criticism.. there is an area maybe 10m below the upper end of the waterfall, that looks very smokey. The very first time I watched it, it stuck out. The more often I watch, the less I see it. In the grand total panorama in the end, the smoke on the lower part of the waterfall looks great. But up there, when you dip over the edge, it almost looks like vapor from a nitrogen container. Edited June 20, 2013 by Oddball
vi_rus
Hey, and thanks for the feedback. When I was working on this simulation I had done slow smoke sim at first. And it looked pretty strange because foam speed was much faster. So I began to speed up this. Maybe you're right and it's too fast, but I didn't receive such comment from a supervisor and to be honest I like how it looks right now But anyway, thank you for the comment. It's always useful to hear another point
Oddball
This is just nitpicking anyway. Yours is among the best (if not *the* best) large scale waterfall works I have seen.

ryew
Congratulations, vi_rus - that's a beautiful result! The waterfall itself is an impressive scale and simulation, but the concept and environment creation is also among the best I've seen featured for a personal project on these boards. This is exactly the sort of work that the community would benefit from a lengthy and practical, project-oriented "concept to creation" tutorial on. Very well done - keep up the great work! But I didn't say that it's a personal project. This shot was made for Russian movie "Jungle". By the way, environment was created by another person. As for tutorial I don't think I'm too experienced to teach other people.
