R+H is trying to assess all avenues on how they can push Voodoo forward; I hope that it could see a second life beyond these walls, myself. :)

and considering rumors that R&H owes SESI half a million of dollars...

Well that isn't a loaded comment. I imagine whatever details there are to that won't be discussed here.  :)

That said, i imagine there would be a myriad of issues to think about when it comes to releasing Voodoo not least of all patent conflicts. I'm sure they are working on it and hope it makes it through.

What are the patent conflicts for Voodoo? If there are, it's nothing money can't solve ;)

That was a pretty complicated issue to say the least (and not for public consumption);  but we're all square now and still hammering on Houdini as ever before.

  • 2 months later...

the binding with capsules (which is great because it survives topology changes) reminds me a lot of what the skin modifier introduced to 3ds max 15 years ago... (This does look like a more generalized system, and the people I know that used voodoo rigging a lot miss it every day...)

Yes, or Houdini's Capture/Deform SOP system introduced in Houdini 2.5 (1998).

But that "mush" control. :o

I imagine it takes the binding mesh and the initial capture region and somehow finds a way to average or relax the points. I heard there were only 2 riggers on Life of Pi and i can see why.

till doesn't explain their facial setup but i guess we might hear about that in the future.
