aracid
Come fella's, lets have another award on this forum!!! CgTalk:FXWars! A Volcano in Downtown A Volcano in Downtown "Collaborative pieces are accepted and encouraged, but Teams entries must have a identifying banner and a name. Shot lists should be included with the entry." who's interested??
keltuzar
I would love to take part in a collaboration. On my own I cannot because it will just be too much. Plus I am not that efficient when it comes to compositing, but if it calls for it I am willing

Why not post progress in a thread here and we can all see and give suggestions before you unleash it on the unsuspecting cgtalk world? FrankFirsching
The last FXWars were fun, but this month I think I don't have time to participate, even in a team (the coaster is demanding for some shaders) I also would suggest, what Jason said. Post your progress and we can give comments and tips.
ivan
I could put some time in, plus I have a render farm. How can I help? shaders and particles?

keltuzar
ok I have played with the lava shader a bit and I just want to relase the file so that people can make changes and get some feedback... Yes my I need to organise my vex part a lot, but I have no time to do it with my homework. lavaShader5.zip
keltuzar
here is another version where I unhooked the normals and also connected the s and t coodinates to the noise so that it doesnot get too glittery... lava6.zip
old school
I noticed that you don't have the displace bound parameter set at the object level. I set it to 1 and the alpha was solid. Fixed some of the render artefacts.
keltuzar
Thankyou old school for the input, here are some of the tewaks of the shader... please do tell which might look close enuf to a lava... these are 2 extremes but more variations are there too... Thankyou
MADjestic
I'm afraid there isn't much I can help yet, but - Isn't lava supposed to be more red and black - to add some more contrast, perhaps?
Marc
moving this to the WIP forum.
aracid
hey all Sorry I've been in the shade lately with this challenge, works just been hectic, hardly getting any time to do any work on this thing, working after hours after working late is bad on the social life. keltuzar and i have started working on some stuff and I did some rought comps as well as just tests for treatments. ive been dying to get some avi's here, but free home page space doesnt allow hot linking. crazy eh anyways basically its test comps out of the sequence, most of it is previs material, we're still alot of work, and alot of it is stock, some of that is going to be replaced with cgi smoke etc. The lava in the background is a test with the shader test of keltuzar shader that is shown in the wip. this shot the lave breaks through the ground, and a car dodges the eruption and swirves to the left. the cg car isnt in there. where theres fire, there will be lava. this is mostly light geom. gonna detail it in, when i get some time :-) i'd like to think of this as a precomp stage, just so that i know where im goin :-) so if u guys have any comments, please go wild :-) all the best aracid
lynbo
Nice work guys its coming along just fine. Keep Going. Wish I had the time to get in on this but it's not gonna happen.
aracid
hey all another wip dont worry bout the cars(and their fantastic mattes), gonna replace them with cg ones and the lava is rendered at quiet a low quality. any thoughts ? and heres the clip test clip gonna have the smoke elements from the above clips etc, just focusing on the bursts for now. all the best aracid
LEO-oo-
Looks good! I think it is better, when the lava starts with a slower eruption. I found this movies: Volcano Kilauea and Volcano Fogo
aracid
hey LEO-oo- Looks good! I think it is better, when the lava starts with a slower eruption. I found this movies: Volcano Kilauea and Volcano Fogo 16611[/snapback] thanks for the links, I agree , it does seem like the lava needs to be slower, however, i'm also capturing the moment when it blows a hole out the ground. so it think the first burst needs alot of pressure and then it settles at a nice speed like in the clips u suggested. and perhaps have larger bits in the lava and little rocks with the steam :-) thanks once again aracid
ykcosmo
so cool!!!! The magma is so hot, I think there should be more volume effects. and the sky.....will it be full of smoke?
