Marc
Is this software for sale outside DD now?
michael
that's what I asked at SIG this year - they were offering the same training opportunity...I was told that "No, Storm is not available for sale bla bla bla..." it seems that this is just a very sneaky and very creative way of getting resumes and demos
Marc
Well I don't understand the point then really. Can I take the knowledge that I garnered from the training, bring it back to Sony and try and build my own Storm tool here (yeah right )? Or are they expecting students and people with no jobs to apply. If that's the case, then instead of taking a week off and not earning any cash while learning, I'd rather apply for the job and then get paid by DD while they train me on Storm. See... a loophole . keltuzar
Its to get new blood into DD, I am sure Jason and the rest of the DD employees are like "MHUWHAHAHA! new houdini recruits to the DD workforce..." I know for a fact that last time they did such a thing many people got hired right off the bat...

ivan
... they do get reels, BUT not many people who know houdini! 21970 it's hard to find Houdini artists. They're all employed. Baffles me why more students don't pick it up, especially if they want employment. it's an open door.

Jason
The Storm training is a good "you try us out and we try you out" effort. It bridges the gap for many (especially inexperienced) artists. Somehow I think that Marc doesn't qualify for the class We've had good feedback from people that have tried it out, even if we didn't end up hiring them. I don't think it was meant to come off as a "we train you up for free, so come on over!" thing. Good artists are very hard to find and good positions are even harder these days. Digital Domain is trying to ensure a best-match scenario with this course.
michael
"you try us out and we try you out" makes sense.... better than an interview in some ways...
Jason
"you try us out and we try you out" makes sense....better than an interview in some ways... 21984 You'd be surprised how many candidates we've had in for the week who had little or no Houdini experience too. In these cases they got introduced into Houdini usage from a production perspective. Cheers, Jason PS. These people not experienced with Houdini were not seamstresses or short-order cooks - they were very capable graphics programmers and folk from other disciplines like character animators with Max experience that had interest in Houdini, Digital Domain and Storm.
