abvfx
Hey guys, i dont post here often, infact looking at my count i post here very little, but i read almost anything and everything here. I was wondering, is there a specific reason why the challenges in the Challenge Archive forum ceases to continue. Post are made to update them but the challenges themselves continue any more. Is this because peoepl are too advanced? They prefer to try the challenges at CGtalk (who wouldnt they are awesome), or is it a lack of interest or (most likely) time constraints. I personally feel the challenges no matter how simple in their task have alot to offer, ie the tree thing (official term ). There is alott o be learnt by looking at people hip files, and most of the peopel who post their files also add a lil description. Just incase people dont really like them because they dont tackle flashy visual stuff, you cant judge these things on merit, behind the basic teapot and cube is data waiting be be accessed and using various methods or simply reading what others have posted alot cant be learnt and applied in future cases. I miss the challenges and would very much enjoy and learn from them in the future. Happy new year by the way guys.

Marc
Personally I think the challenges are awesome and would love for them to continue. I think the main constraint is time and ideas . They are certainly open to anyone with a good idea to post a challenge for other people to try. The challenges that are there probably came from when the chellanger had a little too much time on his hands and started messing about . Ratman
That's usually my problem when trying to work on stuff, ideas, can never decide what to work on.
abvfx
glad you guys feel the same way. I know ideas are hard to come by, because of my lack of houdini knowledge i find ti hard to come up with suitable topics, thing is they arent usually hard when you think about them only when youtry to do one. I was trying to come up with one and thinking you could have theme based challenges ie VEX SHOP's, SOP, POP's etc. Looking at my avatar, which is a 2d drawing i did based on a 3d model by a brilliant artist, id love it if my drawig was 3d. So maybe something on NPR? Then again thinking that might be too hard. Anyone any suggestions? Another idea could be, taking a poly object, and finding a way of breaking it up, this has been covered before on this forum, followed by a very cool tutorial, but was wondering if anyone has another idea on how to do it? I was thinking somthing along the luine of Return of the king style where the big tower collapses. Another idea could be how to generate displacements using VEX SHOP, and because its all pretty much procedural you can then animate those attributes etc. Some little stuff, some hard, some massive projects but would love to hear what people think. Marc
Well this is how the mini challenges work right now. If you have an idea, implement it and post your image/animation and challenge other people to do the same. Once a certain amount of time has gone by, then everyone posts their hipfile and you get to see the myriad different ways of doing the same thing. So if you think it's a good idea... go for it and post it in the effects section ,
edward
I've always had the idea that one could implement a system of HDAs that could be put together into a finite state machine (FSM). Then you could essentially do Brain OPs with them (like Massive?). Needless to say, I've never found the time to attempt this.
Andz
I had an idea the other day of making some kind of robot battle using dynamics. Nothing fancy as an AI just build two walking machines and point one to another, hit play and see who can make the other fall on its side or something. With no interaction just the preset animation for each.
