Which Nvidia driver are people running?

Are you certain the machine is actually using the Nvidia drivers? Run "glxgears -info" and it should give you information about the driver in use. For example this is the output for the GTX 1060 I'm using on CentOS. You might have to install glxgears, not sure if it comes with Ubuntu or not.

GL_RENDERER   = GeForce GTX 1060 6GB/PCIe/SSE2
GL_VERSION    = 4.5.0 NVIDIA 384.111
GL_VENDOR     = NVIDIA Corporation
