Marc
Quick poll. What monitor resolution does everyone use? The reason I'm asking is that I usually design sites for 800x600. But I've noticed that alot of other news sites are getting larger these days. So what do you use? Cheers Marc P.S. Don't worry about the other things (OS, browser).. I've got those already
Wolfwood
Does anyone know why 1280x1024 is fairly standard on desktops? Why not 1280x960? Everything else is 1.3333..... jim.
Mcronin
I run at 1400x1050, but I think I'd still design a site for 1024x768. A lot of people run at 1280x960 or 1280x1024 so you don't want to go over that. Plus many people are getting LCD monitors and they aren't capable of really high resolutions unless you get a very expensive one.
stevenong
I usually run at 1600x1200 but am currently using a 15" flat panel with a max res of 1024x768. As soon as I have enough money, I'll get myself a nice 19"/21" monitor!
michael
I'd go for 1024x768, it's the next up from 800x600 which used to be the standard...more and more people are running at least that... personally, I'd run higher if I could - stupid monitor
Wolfwood
As long as the site is 110% lynx compatible I'm happy. jim.
Marc
hmm.... I actually left 1600x1200 off there.... oh well wolfwood: Actually, I'm making a valiant effort to make the new page 100% XHTML 1.1 compliant. That should mean that it will be compatible with lynx. As well as making it easier to goto other formats in the future too (pda's etc.). I doubt anyone will need to .... but I may as well plan ahead. DaJuice
I also don't understand why anyone uses 1280x1024, I mean, aquare pixels are kinda important, no? Do LCDs with a native res of 1280x1024 have a different aspect ratio that gives you square pixels or something?
Guest Guest
This is "pretty picture" industry. go 1280x1024.
FrankFirsching
I'm using 1600x1200 at home, but all our computers at university are set to a resolution of 1280x1024. I would go with 1024x768 for the website, because some Apprentice users at home possibly run this "low" resolution.
LEO-oo-
I use 1600x1200 too - but I think for the new website is 1024x768 better! I want to read odforce without hassle when I sit on a tropical beach with a laptop and a cold beer!

Marc
ok so 800x600 seems to be a thing of the past. I was mainly worried about the people at home, but it seems that most of you have got some pretty decent machines there. . I seriously doubt that I could fill up 1600x1200 worth of space anyway, so I don't think I'll be going that hi . Thanks for the input Marc
