MarioD
Hi everyone, I'm a 3D Generalist in PiranhaBar mainly working with Maya, I;ve played around with Houdini but don't know much. We are looking into the best solution to create a colored powder explosion like the attached image. I've tried with Maya fluids and it's a pain, slow and unpredictable. at least that was the experience I had, I'm not a Fluid expert by no means. Then the particle system in Maya doesn't help either. I come from Softimage ICE and the difference is uge. Do you guys recon this would be possible with Houdini? Not so much the Particle debris but the fluids cloud sim. Would be great to know your opinion. Tks
Skybar
Sure its possible. Some RBD for the solid chunks, then tons of particles and maybe a smokesim ontop.

Gawai
Hi I'm new to this forum and Houdini and I came across this while searching for methods to do this kind sim. Could I shamefully ask for someone to do a tutorial on this or at least point me in the direction of tutorials that will help with doing sims like this? Thanks Adam
mestela
Andi is pretty clear in that breakdown about the steps, here's a few things that should get you going: http://www.tokeru.com/cgwiki/index.php?title=HoudiniDops#Advect_smoke_with_particles http://www.tokeru.com/cgwiki/index.php?title=HoudiniDops#Pop_advect_by_volume http://www.tokeru.com/cgwiki/index.php?title=HoudiniDops#Pyro_and_colour_again (And probably a few other links on that page too)
