art3mis
Hi In order to get a better appreciation for any rendering speed advantages various GPU rendering options (Octane, Redshift) might have over Mantra with my setup I am creating some basic render comparison tests. Part of my confusion is not having a deeper understanding of how render engines work One thing that I am stumbling with, do Octane and Redshift require you to use their Lights & Shaders in order to work properly? For example with Octane there is a single Light Emission material Edited August 13, 2016 by eco_bach
Atom
Yes, you have to use the 3rd party render lights, materials and output ROP. That is why it is difficult to come up with an objective comparison. You have to become well versed in the render system you are trying to compare. art3mis
ok thanks. Will focus on Redshift first as I've heard its similar to Vray
Sepu
I've used Vray for a few years now in Maya, I bought Redshift an is awesome all the settings are quite similar. And now I've been using Redshift for Houdini which is awesome! is very fast! And You have way more control than Octane is you are looking into GPU rendering. Sepu, in what way do you have more control? The fact that Redshift has its own lights? I really prefer the 'live' previews using Octane and its photographic focus (presets for different film emulsions, etc)
