art3mis
Get an error message unable to read file But CAN load .bgeo and .fbx files no problem What gives? Is this somehow related to a 'Geometry not cooked' message I also get? Edited November 28, 2016 by art3mis

art3mis
Actually can't load dxf, .obj as well as .stl files! Uploaded the title of this post to reflect. The only geometry files that seem to load without error are .bgeo and .fbx files. Also I upgraded to latest build 15.5.632 Possibly related to a corrupt config or other file in my $HOME directory? Also tried removing spaces from filenames. Edited November 28, 2016 by art3mis
Atom
Have you tried dropping the .STL on a text editor? Maybe instead of an .stl file, you downloaded a message from the server as your download result. Try opening the same .stl file in Blender. Does this .stl work in other 3D apps? art3mis
This is the file from here http://threedscans.com/lincoln/nymph/ but as mentioned getting the same error with any .obj files! Strange...obviously something specific to my Houdini install Nymph_Preparing_For_The_Bath.stl.zip
rbowden
Yeah, that loads fine here by doing the File--Import---Geometry method. You should have included the .hip file with it not working in your .zip file you uploaded...That way people can open it up on their machines to see if it opens or not and also to see if it is maybe something else with your file. Doing a quick google search, I found these topics also:https://www.sidefx.com/forum/topic/18868/ https://www.sidefx.com/forum/topic/40445/
art3mis
Thanks Ryan. Yes googling for me only turned up suggestions to remove spaces in file path which I've done. Its not the specific .hip file. I've attached a bare bones .hip with a single File import node. Same issue! Perhaps an application preference I'm not aware of? file_import.hiplc
Atom
The .stl file you posted loads fine for me in Houdini 15.5.607 and Blender 2.8.
rbowden
Yep, definitely something on your end because it loads in fine even when I rename the .stl file to what you named it. Stupid question but, I gotta ask...You do have the .hip file and the .stl file in the same directory right? You are using the $HIP variable so they have to be in the same directory. If you do and it is still not loading, move the .stl file to another directory and see if you can get it to load by hardcoding the path in the file node (eg. C:/Documents/blah/geo/mygeo.stl). If none of that works, I would highly recommend sending an email to sidefx support because obviously this is working for everyone else.
