Captain Marvel FX?

My best guess would be a particle sim (a lot of particles), convert them into a volume and use a pyro shader to add colors going from red, to yellow, orange and blue. Then just feed the age attribute into that ramp on the shader. You will have to play with the particle sim a lot and I'm sure it's not just one basic sim creating the effect. You do have to understand replicating an effect from a Marvel movie isn't going to be a 5 minute thing.

Hahahaha, exactly, no way! It certainly went through multiple artists, multiple 3d programs, and certainly even multiple studios. Also each sequence was probably done slightly differently depending on the needs of the shots. Worst of all some artist probably got a setup from another artist that left the show and had to swim through a morass of nearly unreadable code and or scene file with tetchy non-intuitive settings and no documentation.

haha, I was also very interested in this kind of effect. You can see the same effect in the amazing spider man 2 too. Guess it must involve in smoke sim first and using it to direct particle sim. Maybe do some test and see how it goes
