monomind
Hello all, I have an i7 4930k CPU with 64 gigs of ram, and a 980Ti Gpu - I realize when I do vellum simulations, my cpu is being used rather than my GPU - but I've assumed it to be otherwise. So I want to ask, what's calculated on GPU when using houdini? If Vellum can be calculated on GPU, how should I set it up that way? Here is my preferences window s to show you that I set up houdini to use my gpu. Edited October 15, 2019 by monomind
kleer001
Seems like that should be enough. Vellum, AFAIK, is OpenCL enabled by default. I've had problems, but only when my GPU wasn't recognized. Have you tried compare/contrast with a pyro sim with OpenCL on and off?
Drughi
Pyro sims are a lot faster. Not crazy fast, but its worth it, especially when tweaking settings. If you go for higher resolutions it's not gonna work anymore. When the gpu memory is full it's going to fail.
