Rafal123
I really like old H logo with you know, hands, all that rays, particles, etc. It's great and IMO it's much more better then current with girl you know.... Anybody else think like me? Maybe THEY will change it? p.s it's just a logo but when it looks cool you feel cool too when H loads Edited December 19, 2007 by Rafal123
andrewlowell
It's there a way to customize it?

digitallysane
The current one does suck a lot. I followed JColdrick's suggestion and set the variable HOUDINI_NO_SPLASH = 1 so at least I don't see it. The splash images are in HFS/houdini/pic/*splash.pic Dragos
Jason
There is a .pic file in the distribution called something like "houdinisplash.pic" under $HFS/houdini/pic/. The only way to customize it is to overwrite it, currently. SESI Please Note: I have RFE'd that they look down the HOUDINI_PATH for this file in the distant past, but I don't think they ever got around to it. I wanted to customize for each show the artist would be working on... it's really fun to do such stuff. I wanted to replace it with the shot slate or something, so that when the artist starts Houdini, the scan of the shot shows up to put them in the head-space. Or just do funny stuff. Perhaps someone at SESI could just do this quickly still?
Marc
I like the new one... eh well, each to his own .
Jason
I like the new one... eh well, each to his own . You're WRONG, Marc. Dead wrong! I do like the lo-fi "H@9" thing, it's pretty neat - but it's just the girl that I don't really like too much, personally. Using characters will always go wrong, I think... they're so loaded with connotations and such. It's a pro FX tool, not a snowboard brand. Oh, the only issue to be aware if you set HOUDINI_NO_SPLASH, is that if you change display resolutions Houdini spends about a minute running through all the icons, prerendering them for your new resolution (with hsvg.exe). Without the splash screen it's easy to think that Houdini is not starting up at all. Just something to keep in mind...
andrewlowell
I personally like the logo but I would think there are tons of things to consider when using a character in an international company logo like racial / ethnic / cultural / income biases. I did think floyds artwork much more appropriate for a startup logo but as long as it's customizable it should be no big deal. Marc
hooray for snowboard branding! Actually I forgot about Floyds one, I liked that one the most. The hand/glowy thing I didn't like at all, no sir!

digitallysane
I used to like the old Houdini *logo* much more that the current, "minimalist" (and impersonal) incarnation. That one had personality (are we allowed to write "balls" on the forum?) I didn't like any of the splash screens, neither the current one, Floyd's or the hand one. Just a black surface with the old logo would be good enough. Dragos

lynbo
Yea Floyd's was really cool but you think you got it bad with the girl have you seen the last couple of XSI splash screens? wow.. I really dislike it. who is the thug in the hoodie? is he trying to give me crack? is he gonna mug me? I dunno but I'm a little concerned. -Lyn-
andrewlowell
I definitely don't like the XSI one, At least the Houdini girl doesn't look like one of my students Edited December 20, 2007 by andrewlowell
symek
well, XSI splash is perfect actually. Perfectly hits the target audience. I don't know what you're talking about! Really! I don't care who is the guy. He got a style (not too much, just like people from Apple's commercials), he's young, this strong, he knows what he's doing and he's little wild (rebellious). I think it's perfect - as usual in case of big successful company with $$$ for creating product identity with good agency. What does not mean I'd like to see the same in Houdini. But I also don't think that Houdini should have some amazing procedural minimal art work. If Houdini has a opinion of a software for computer scientist, what IS a big problem for SESI, it should avoid this connotation and it does with a human on a splash. Who looks pretty bad actually - I agree. But black screen? Common! The idea? What is an idea to splash about?
Jason
I think the abstract art stuff better... like this photo - its tasteful, effects-ey.. etc. In fact, it might be fun to render something like this..
TheUsualAlex
Perhaps along the line of Piet Mondrian's minimalist approach? But only modernized.

mark
this thread is amusing. lol @ lyn i dont really mind the current splash screen.. its got a modern feel.. but i can see why others might not like it as a splash screen. the pic with the houdini logo coming out of the egg would be a good one
photex
I'm cool with the "busting out of the concept" girl. I was cool with Floyd's work too. I think the points made about race, gender etc. were really interesting though. I had never thought about it like that. The great part about Floyd's splash was how motivating they somehow were. I can't say the same for the girl but as long as we don't end up with some of the weird splash screens a'la maya and max I'll be cool with whatever (xsi is bad, but better, and I really enjoyed the v4 and v5 splashes). That is a cool image Jason... it's actually a photo!? Ah but yeah, if were going to get a different splash then I vote for some ptakun renders!
