michael
in the latest cinefex : "Tiger Hair Studios...generated the opening starfield, incorporating CG planet models of Remus and Romulus created by Digital Domain's Matt Fairclough using a proprietary software system called Terragen." once again cinefex thinks Terragen is DD's... Planetside can't be too happy about that though....
plan9
I seem to recall the dude that makes Terragen works at DD?
Marc
..er..... terragen is DD's. Matt wrote it and he works at DD. I think he sold it externaly for a while, and I'm not sure if he still does...

Marc
What about this?http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/octannounce.shtml I like the way he uses the word 'we' in that news item . Well, I guess he's still selling it then. Not sure what deal he has with DD, perhaps he only sells the tech after DD has had its way with it... michael
ah...well I never knew that.... just assumed that if a large company like DD had some kind of stake in it they'd slap they're name all over it... thanks for the link... Jason
What the deal is is the old "Terragen Classic" codebase is still being refined and sold externally to DD. The new Terragen - which is damn beautiful and very powerful - is owned by DD. Features developed in the new Terragen cannot be implemented in Classic unless by special arrangement. Development on Classic is mostly bug-fixes and refinements to things like motion-blur, etc. The new Terragen is based off an entirely different architecture which allows cameras to fly from the beyond celestial level and land on a rock!
