  1. Hey all. New user and I'm running H17.5 on a PC, but use a Mac keyboard. I am having regular problems where text entry gets locked out across the whole interface, and I cannot enter anything in any fields. Typically the mouse/tablet still work. However now also getting a more general freezing of the interface where the mouse/tablet won't work either. The only things I can do are minimize and close the app window from the Windows buttons at the top of the app window. This generates the save/discard dialog box from Houdini, but I'm unable to click or enter on any options, so I just have to kill Houdini from the task manager and lose my work. I can't find a lot on this type of problem, but did run into the intercept mode thing (unsure what that is at this stage) but my keyboard does not have a scroll lock button so that doesn't seem to be the issue. Any thoughts would be appreciated! /b
  2. Hey guys, Been working in front of a PC for 15 years and recently I started having pain on the hand wrist, wich is horrible, it extends to the arm. I talked with a few colleages (they are mostly motion designers) and some of them told me they switched to Wacom, wich I use for Zbrush sculpting, but I don't imagine using Wacom all day as mouse, specially to plug nodes in Houdini. Anybody has experience or any tips/solutions for this? I also saw Logitech has some Ergonomic mouses: Would love to hear some experiences and tips Thanks in advance Cheers
  3. Hello guys, I'm sorry for the little teasing title, but haven't found a solution so far, after reading docs and searching through forums. So here my questions: 1) In case of a viewport layout split in 2 (or more), I would like to know on which of the 2 viewports the radial menu is over. If the radial menu is aware of which viewport is underneath, it could set specific settings or object isolations for that particular viewport (like the viewport isolator node). I'm using the following code in my radial menu script, but it is always returning the first viewport, even when the radial menu is over the second viewport. import toolutils activepane = toolutils.activePane(kwargs) print activepane.curViewport() 2) Given a double display setup, with two Scene View panels (one on each display), I would like to know on which sceneviewer() the mouse cursor is over, and most importantly what are the (x,y) mouse coordinates relative to the viewport of that sceneviewer. Do you know if this is possible at all? I guess I could do something with the Mouse CHOP node and mapFromMouseChop() function, but Mouse Chop seems to be registering only the position of the mouse in the main Display. Is it not aware of the second display? 3) Bonus question: do you know how to refresh the 'radial menu' menu, so that newly installed radial menu files are loaded without need to restart Hou? Ideally I would like to embed a radial menu file in the 'extra file' section of my Digital Asset. OnCreated(), the asset would then save the radial menu file in the user preferences directory, and I would like the user to be able to use the new radial menu right away, without restart. Thanks for any help!
  4. mapToWorld for non-single viewer layout

How to use hou.GeometryViewport.mapToWorld() if the scene viewer is set to non-single layout. I can get mouse position with Qt, but can't calculate offset for different layouts. Works well in single persp mode
  5. Get point near the mouse cursor

Hi. I want to find closest point to mouse pointer. It's not a problem when the mouse pointer intersects with a surface. But how to get the point if it is outside the surface? I have the pointer origin and direction https://s9.postimg.org/a8y8r58i7/image.png
  6. Hi Everyone, I was wondering if there is anyway in Python to run a function only when the left mouse bottom being held down? Thanks,
  7. Not sure if it effects other distros, but there is an annoying default behavior when you ALT-Left Mouse button click in Ubuntu. It moves the entire application Window. This is a common question but no universal solution it seems I've tried the most common solution, modifying the Mouse setting in dconf Editor, org>GNOME>desktop>wm>preferences but afaik IT DOES NOT WORK in Ubuntu mate 16.04. Anyone else have a solution that would work or I can at least try?
  8. Hi Not sure if my problem is Linux wide or just to my particular flavor. New ubuntu-mate install. I've lost all my scene mouse button controls. ie option or alt LEFT-MOUSE should tumble in Scene view, instead it pans my entire IDE window. option or alt RIGHT-MOUSE should zoom my scene, instead it resizes my entire IDE window. Is this a correction from within Houdini, or do I have to dig thru to find how mouse buttons are defined in my desktop?
