Jason
Have you guys seen Google Earthhttp://earth.google.com/ very cool all it needs is realtime satellite 19110[/snapback] Nice! I've been playing with NASA World Wind for a while - which is awesome - just the download speeds are a lot slower. http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/
deecue
yeah.. it's definitely very cool. google aquired the software from keyhole and then basically googlized it.. ( http://www.google.com/press/pressrel/keyhole.html ) As of today it looks like it just went from a paying subscription to being free which is awesome. even for 20 bucks you can get gps support. i use google maps ( maps.google.com ) all the time now.. that plus the local search i never look up stuff in the yellow pages or dare go to mapquest.. it's all right there and fast.. just love it.. And what about this book deecue, have you read it, it's interesting ... Explains some lighting techniques used in cinematography? I'm agree seems like very soon we will have a new protocol: google:// Hopefully in a short future google wilkl release all this stuff for linux too. deecue
i haven't read it but it looks pretty interesting.. it came about from one of those times where you find a link to something (lighting in my case), which leads you to another link and another link and another.. well i found myself ending up at andrew whitehurst's (lighting supervisor at framestore) homepage ( http://www.andrew-whitehurst.net/ ) and he suggested it.. so i did a quick google on it and found that print had a few pages of it.. i'm def interested in looking in to it though as it seems very promising.. malexander
Ah... but watch out! Google's headed the way of the dinosaur -- better click on that link pretty darn quick! http://news.softpedia.com/news/Ballmer-Goo...ears-1948.shtml Statements from Microsoft are frequently good for a daily chuckle. LEO-oo-
BTW: Hello by google is a nice app - but Windows-only And they have now video.google.com/
Marc
oooo.. worldwind and Google Earth are fun. Google Earth could stand to be a little quicker with it's image updating though. As for microsoft's prediction, I think this line sums it up quite nicely : "It looks like Gates and Ballmer have already discovered the universal truth regarding technology and afford to make predictions that have so little to do with current market conditions." And, of course are mostly wrong.
deecue
and of course they just keep on talking... deecue
so supposidly google temporarily closed down earth downloads.. looks like everyone jumped on it being free and drastically slowed the servers down like marc mentioned (not suprised).. give it a little while and i'm sure images will be pretty fast once they upgrade and everyone's not bogging it all down at once.. on another note, looks like they just released their maps api since there were so many hacks to begin with. i'll be interested in seeing what comes about next.. for those that haven't seen before, more things like these will be popping up: http://www.housingmaps.com/ http://supergreg.hopto.org/google-yahoo/ http://www.chicagocrime.org/map/
sibarrick
Looks like the internet is finally catching up with it's own hype.... there must be some law stating something about techology happening x number of years after someone said it had already happened.
