Although I am on holidays i could not resist to drop a line to thank everybody that helped me with my questions in order to produce this first commercial done with Houdini (and sure not the last).

BTW, thanks also Cezar for your top work.

click on the Guinness commercial on news.

The final shots of the pint of books, structure, cables etc is all done with Houdini.

"Avoiding traditional 3d techniques and after much research (...) decision was made to use the Houdini software - a first for the Mill. It was one of the most difficult jobs I have ever work on (...) and I'm very proud of it."

I hope SESI has read it already. Nice a quote to quote...

cheers,

sy.

It is Houdini 8.1 with Mantra, no mental ray although we are looking very seriously at it.

The thing is that our tests with Houdini 9 have been excellent so i am not in a hurry.

;-)

thanks

jb

Plain great! Nice idea, too!

The render looks very convincing! Has it been rendered with mr?

We are going to continue using it and are starting to build a database of people that can help us on the transition but the plan is to set a good team that can carry certain key productions that require houdini (and we are seeing this more and more often) so taking advantage of the thread, all of you that may be interested whenever a project pops up please get in touch. (informal is better)

:)

Congrats Jordi... I'm still glad to see the Mill finally using Houdini :).

We are using 9 now and truly Mantra 9 is very fast..

The whole thing with Mental Ray is that we have a huge pipeline ready for it and we have huge benefits if we carry on using it so we are going to be pushing mental and mantra for sure.

:)

thanks

jb

Great stuff Jordi - well done, sir!

Don't do it. Use Mantra 9, seriously. Unless you like slow renders and spending money.
