hitch
looking cool so far, is it animatable
maharzan
Not yet. Still need to learn a lot of things before I can do that. A question here... can we make any type of animation or same as that in the adobe cards??
Marc
Well technically the rules are that it needs to be 'built up' or 'broken down'. That's about as detailed as it gets though. So the idea is that you either start with it and animate it away somehow, or animate the cards in and end up with the structure. You're free to choose anything within those constraints though. Cheers Marc P.S. Looks great so far

JDenker
solid work so far. i really like your approach! how you deformed the surface? just with a simple lattice_?
maharzan
Thanks JDenker. I am using curves and a card to sweep / copy around the curve. Nothing fancy but have learned quite an amount of tricks by now. Heres a full model update..

maharzan
Hey Thanks ppl. I need to learn UV map and what not.. have never tried it out properly. Was trying animating it but it didn't work, plus it will take years to render it on my machine.. has anyone got any clue on how to speed things up? Good Luck Photex.. eager to see your update too. edward
it will take years to render it on my machine.. has anyone got any clue on how to speed things up? I think the trick would be to not actually use fully geometry for the cards but to do render time instancing. Probably use File Procedurals aka Delay Load shaders. eg. http://localhost:48626/nodes/shop/vm_geo_file This may or may not help: http://localhost:48626/rendering/rendermanypolys
maharzan
Okay, did learn a little of UV Mapping too. And now here it is... looks like this will be my final version. I still need to clean out the redundant nodes. Hope you guys like it. It was wonderful experience coming from zero to making this model in Houdini and learnt quite a lot of processes. I would like to thank the Houdini Subscription list that helped me know more about how to make this. Thanks to odforce.net to make me actually wanting to do this.
