  1. Hello guys, I wanted to show you the work I've done over the last 2,5 years at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg.
  2. Hello guys, When I render, a few frames have a light that is overbright. I send the render on the render farm (i.e. Royal Render) in two passes. The first pass generates the IFDs and the second pass renders the IFDs. We have far more Mantra Standalone Licenses than Houdini Licenses. The error is already embedded in the IFD File. I tried to solve the problem by only letting one machine generate the IFD files, but it didn't work out. I think this has to do something with the light linking, it appeared when I linked some objects. The Houdini Version is 13.0.401, same as the mantra version on the farm.   3. Hi guys, I made a candle flame with the pyro2 shader. The problem with the shading is that i don't get the same transparency as in the reference. In the reference, the blue/transparent part is the hottest. I mapped the temperature to nothing where it is high. The interior where the wick is, is transparent. The problem is that there is this outer shell/outline of lower temperature which has some density and give the are some opaqueness. How would you do it? I could do an alternate setup with geometry revolved around a simulated curve and control the shading via color and transparency ramps. Had to zip the .hip so that odforce would upload it.   5. Hello Dudes, I have a candle flame with the pyro2 shader. We want this kind of shading. The problem is that the flame should only illuminate itself and nothing else in the scene. The emission ends up in the direct emission pass. I asked around and couldn't find a solution. How would you get rid of the emission of the flame in the indirect emission pass? I tried out the Billowy Smoke Shader, but it also has emission on it. If there is no way of doing this, we would just render out the flame in a separate image.   6. Hello guys, I'm the Cloth and FX TD on the project Helga that we do at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. I will use this thread to ask questions and present my progress. At the time I'm working on the cloth of a character. At the beginning of August, I will start with fluids, destruction and particles. The deadline for the animated short is in March 2015. Please feel free to criticize any errors in my files or my workflow. I want to learn the best practices and grow as an FX TD. Initially I have a few questions: When the sleeve of the doublet of the character Ulfbert ist bend, it doesn't bend back. How can I influence the simulation so that it does? (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/23791935/ulfbert_doublet.mp4) I also want the sleeve as a whole to move forward. How would I do that? The cloth has to be at a certain position at the start of the shot. What's the best way to preroll the simulation. I would have the character 1 sec in T-Pose, then animate two seconds into the pose at the beginning of the shot. Cheers, Johannes

  9. Hey guys, I have a little problem with the smoke rendering in my scene. When I want to render through cam1, the smoke doesn't show up. It does though through the ROP Camera. The position and framing of the camera are all right, because the smoke appears after 40 or so frames. Did anyone experience this problem, yet? Cheers God_Shoots_Shot_v005_smoke_only_of.hipnc
  10. Hey Guys, I imported a digital asset successfully into Maya. I wanted to animate the channels in Maya, but the values don't update on each frame. For example in the attached OTL, there Input takes a mesh and copies it unto a curve. The resample attribute defines how many shapes appear. If I set the keyframes and let the animation run, the resample attribute stays the same. I set the channels keyable, but it still doesn't work. Did someone encounter such a problem or is it just me? On another note: Transferring the UVs with attributeTransfer doesn't seem to work in Maya. Thx in advance! curve.otl
