  1. Hi guys I 've a problem importing .aas file from Maya to Houdini as yo can see from the attached pics I have sphere and lights imported with Arnold Porcedural node. When I render them with Arnold the lights seem to be less intense than the maya ones. this the same but rendered in maya Could anyone know why that happens? Thanks in advantage
  2. Found an annoying problem recently in regards to rendering .ass files with instanced packed alembics. So the basic set up is packed alembic geometries being sent through a "Copy to Points" sop and are packed and instanced. These are then being manipulated a bit, and then being sent through an Arnold ROP to export a .ass file. These .ass files are then being sent to Maya to render and they have rendered great. The issue I have discovered is after I pack and instance my packed alembics. I added a little processing to the "transform" prim intrinsic to give the instances a little rotation and scale the instance from 0 to 1. Rotating the instances through the "transform" prim intrinsic works great and renders fine. However, scaling the "transform" prim intrinsic matrix causes the render to send the instances to go all over the place randomly. The Houdini viewport shows the instances scaling correctly, but after exporting the .ass and rendering in Maya the instances go all over the place randomly. This is all I am doing to scale the instances. f@grow is just an animated attribute to drive the scaling of the instances. matrix3 transform = primintrinsic(0,"transform",@primnum); matrix3 scaleMatrix = ident(); scale(scaleMatrix,set(f@grow,f@grow,f@grow)); setprimintrinsic(0,"transform",@primnum,transform*scaleMatrix); Does anyone have any experience with this? I cant upload a file just yet because its a work thing, but its possible I can recreate it. This is really driving me crazy so any suggestions would be great to just try something fresh!
  3. Hi, I'm trying to find a way to export nested .ass files - for example with a crowd. I can get a crowd exported using alembics using this method - but I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for exporting, say, each agent as an arnold procedural within a single arnold procedural i.e. nested. cheers
  4. Hello everyone, I have recently wrote an inhouse python plug-in in c++ for houdini. H2A is a custom plug-in to export houdini geometry in arnold ass file format to be able to load in mtoa, htoa or c4dtoa. This plug-in exports almost every geometry type to arnold i.e. points, polygons and curves. You can compile or grab the compiled plug-in from: https://github.com/sergeneren/anima/tree/master/anima/render/arnold/H2A P.s. please excuse my sloppy c style
  5. Hello All, I have scoured Solid Angle and Thinkbox support for answers to how to setup Deadline to generate ASS files to render them on Deadline farm. When I try to get Deadline to generate both, it fails out miserably. When I generate the ASS files locally (with VDBs correctly pathed) I get the error: [ass] line 76: /obj/FIRE:volume.shader: unresolved reference to '/obj/FIRE/shopnet/arnold_vopnet/volume_collector2' Unfortunately, I can't upload project file for active show, but any links or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
  6. Hi, I'm facing a pipeline issue: I'd like to scatter dozens of object in maya using the houdini engine. It's working fine if I scatter a simple object like a torus. BUT in order to keep my scene light I would like to scatter arnold .ass file. But houdini engine doesn't recognize ass files. Do you know how i could avoid that, or maybe use Htoa.. The point is to be able to scatter and control a huge amount of object without getting a heavy scene thanks
  7. Hi I have en environnement geometry from Maya with his own material contained in a .ass file. When I import it in Houdini, I can cast a shadow on it without problem (with Force Phantom). But since I don't have a real access to the shader content, is there a way to add a shadow catch AOV of the added Houdini assets without recreating and reassigning an Arnold Material for each .ass geometry where I need the shadow pass? Thanks Maxime
