Diego A Grimaldi
Hey everyone, I'm trying to spread this around so that we can maybe stop this person I have been contacted through Vimeo messaging system by a user under the name of TutsPlusLevel who is trying to sell CGWorkshop courses through his account and making a business out of it. This is what he wrote to me: Dear my Friend We are offering a great stuff related to Houdini Study by selling for you a great courses with a perfect price so you can follow it and learn more from it. So we have 4 great courses related to houdini from cgsociety but with good price for each one. You can choose what you like. 1. Take all of the 4 courses with a great price (800$) If you are intresting we can let you know about the payment account then you will have your privet download link for the courses. Also This is not official from cgsociety but we are helping students getting the courses with less prices. Also we will add you to our list to keep update you with our new courses . Thank you. tutspluslevel@gmail.com I know pirating tutorials is a bad thing but there is no way of stopping that. But somebody selling pirated tutorials to make a business out of it, it's just wrong and despicable. I hope we can somehow stop this, I'm also going to contact CGSociety because this is a terrible thing to do. I am a VFX artist myself and I would hate it if my work was to be sold illegally and a somebody would make a profit out of my work.
jrockstad
I received a private message in my OD Force inbox today about this, so they are definitely aware of this community as well. I was initially excited because I thought it might be some kind of promotional offer, but of course, sadly it's just some old fashioned profiteering. SpencerL
Hey Diego! Thanks a lot for posting this, as well as contacting CGSociety. It is always frustrating to see my workshops being pirated, but its an occupational hazard unfortunately. I wish there was a video self destruct button I could press when a video gets pirated...maybe thats an idea worth developing
yourdaftpunk
Hi Diego, This has me a bit miffed. That's unbelievably bold to sell a pirated course. And to a small community no less! This ain't Maya, yo! > It is always frustrating to see my workshops being pirated, but its an occupational hazard unfortunately. Yup, and I almost saw it as a right of passage when my course was first pirated. Was gonna happen, nothing to be done. But these guys have serious chutzpah to resell others' work. Grrrr. Diego A Grimaldi
Hi Spencer, I took 2 of your courses during the years and they were both great. I also took another bunch over the years and it pains me to see them pirated, but even more if someone tries to make money out of artist's hard work. Shawn, as Rohan Dalvi says in his HOW TO SELL DIGITAL GOODS, there's nothing we can do to prevent piracy, you just gotta have faith that people who appreciate the artists will pay for the courses instead of pirating them. sebkaine
@Spencer+Shawn The only efficient way to avoid piracy i have see, is the 3D Buzz methods. http://www.3dbuzz.com/ When you buy a tuts , they randomly print you name / adress in the video ... so you kinda think twice before giving it to anyone ... Maybe CG society should think of something similar ...
yesyes
3dbuzz stuff ise also pirated
sebkaine
Well i don't see how they manage to delete the buyer name from the video cause your name is impress in transparency over the video ? Maybe they have suppress some part of the tutorials ?

Diego A Grimaldi
Sadly true Miles, but when he said "This is not official from cgsociety" he screwed himself over (even though it was clear he wasn't related, especially from his terrible grammar). jrockstad
Yeah, it's really surprising that he made no effort at all to conceal the illegitimacy of the offer. He's either just a really bad pirate or genuinely doesn't think he's doing anything wrong.
