Thomas Helzle
"A Torus Line" Fast additive line-rendering in Mantra + DOF... Best look at it in full size, scaling doesn't like it too well. Cheers, Tom Edited January 18, 2017 by Thomas Helzle

How did you derive the curve normals for the spec highlight?
Thomas Helzle
Just now, jkunz07 said: Very nice! How did you derive the curve normals for the spec highlight? In a mantrasurface you dive into the network after making it editable and then replace the two normal inputs in the main surface node with the output of a "Hair Normal" node, that will give it a roundish look. Thomas Helzle
Following a tutorial by Alessandro Pepe on magnetic fields I came up with this: Love it - thanks Alessandro! Cheers, Tom
Thomas Helzle
And another one based on the setup by petz here: I extended it a bit and got this: Rhinos Grasshopper had pretty cool field line components, but this is even better - thank you petz!!! This one is heavily post-processed in Photoshop with the "Oilpaint" filter. If you deactivate it's specular component, you basically get a directional blur which sometimes works great on images with clear lines. The displacement texture is a modified version of this GLSL shader: https://www.shadertoy.com/view/XddSRX I currently look into GLSL using this IDE: http://synthclipse.sourceforge.net/index.html Otherwise its a simple displacement on a grid :-) Cheers, Tom

That shadertoy site is awesome, lots to learn. One last question, on the shader toy site there are 2 codes (Buf A and Image), by curious I tried putting in a wrangle but didnt work, there is any way to translate this stuff to houdini? Will read more about these sites, thanks again! and keep sharing your art! Cheers

Cheers I made a big screenshot of the result after some time of painting in synthclipse... ;-) There is a GLSL node in Houdini, but I think I read somewhere that it's for the viewport only. Can't help you there, I haven't tried it yet. Cheers, Tom
