"Originally developed at Sony Pictures Imageworks, spReticleLoc is a Maya C++ plugin plus MEL code which creates a reticle for a camera. It allows for various camera reference masks to be displayed when looking through the camera, such as filmback, projection gate, and pan and scan attributes

The value of predefined parameters can be displayed in selectable areas, such as the camera focal length and name, current aspect ratio; frame number, name of the show and shot, Maya scene file name, current user name, etc. Finally, arbitrary textural information can be displayed as well. "

um wow... cool. There's some other neato stuff there. I see the OSL stuff is written by Larry Gritz? Is he working at Sony now? And the Field3d is from Magnus, so that's great. The volume libraries at Sony are very nice.

Those are some great tools there. I wonder if more will be coming...

Thanks

Thanks Sony, looking forward to seeing Field3D.

Does anyone know if it can it be used, and is it suitable, as an I3D replacement ?

I just got this on the wire. Very cool stuff.

OSL sounds very very cool.

As far as I know Sony uses it for all their fire and fluid tools as well as the volume rendering stuff (svea). Which means that the majority of the work it's used for is done in Houdini, so I'd say yes. Very suitable for an i3d replacement.

I wonder if we can entice Magnus to come in and say a few things.

Hello there friends!

Now, I have to admit I don't know exactly everything the I3D can do, but Field3D is pretty flexible, so... maybe?

We've been able to switch out the old in-memory storage format to Field3D both in Svea and the new fluid sim framework, so it covers those areas pretty well at least. One of the main ideas with Field3D is that it's easy to add new data structures without having to start over from scratch with a new file format.
